Why are americans content to have health care tied to their jobs?

millions of people keep their jobs ONLY because it provides health care. fix the system, so people can change jobs, doing something they might actually enjoy and accel at, and everyone benefits.

how can this be wrong? Why are americans content to have health care tied to their jobs?
Americans are far too greedy and self-centered to ever accept the idea that maybe they should share the burden of health care with those who are unable to look after it themselves. Civilized countries have been doing this for a long time. Why are americans content to have health care tied to their jobs?
It should be tied to working.

I do not think that the slugs who don't WANT to work should have their healthcare paid for by us!
gee, i don't have health care provided by my employer, and I would really appreciate it if it was
Its an unfortunate reality that healthcare is expensive in america. 23 cents of every dollar goes to health care business and 77 cents to the privlages. In places like canada 2 cents goes to health care business and 98 cents to the privlages.

We find loopholes to not give some people the medical attention they need because its too expensive. Also costs are only raising.
Since it pays, mine as well get it. Everyone knows they can get this tied into their job, making it another reason why their job is good. There really are alot of reasons, but since they can have it and its a good thing get a job that has it so your not loosin out.
Thank you for pointing this out. There is obviously a flaw in the system. My heart sunks when I see that old people have to work so that they don't go broke paying for their medications.
Do you have any idea how expensive health insurance is without going through your employer?
it's not. Health care is cheaper on a group plan at work than a private policy. Could get a private policy when leaving your job, but it is too expensive, so we try to get another job with good benefits.
Insurance costs make it impossible for small businesses to offer health insurance. Insurance was never intended to pay for doctor visits, prescription drugs or tests.

It was for major sickness or illnesses.

If your auto insurance payed for oil changes, tires and repairs; you could imagine how much it would cost.
Hmm, maybe because it isn't a problem.

Or perhaps because they prefer the healthcare they get now instead of what they could expect from a government program.

Could be they don't want to shop for health care themselves.

Maybe people who like the government to provide things for them should enjoy one of the nordic societies instead?
A universal healthcare policy should be implemented. It would take the burden of small businesses providing health insurance off and not to mention the free healthcare benefits.
b/c that is how ppl have traditionally rec their healthcare.

Healthcare through their job ..they(the employers) have a larger group(pooled) and can get a lower rate....that makes their (employee's healthcare affordable. Well, somewhat affordable.

If ppl had to get insurance on their own......MOST probably couldn't afford it, their premiums would be thru the roof....which is exactly what happens.

With the rising costs for healthcare many small businesses can't afford to pay for healthcare for their employee's.....many businesses are NOT offering healthcare anymore b/c of that.

I agree...it's a huge problem!
I'm ';one of those'; excepting I love my job, but wish I could afford insurance if I ever had the opportunity to retire. I don't know how ';the little guys'; can do anything except keep voting for receptive candidates that can make a difference. I wish we would take ';the best of'; from countries and/or insurance plans that are succeeding. My senior mom can hardly make it with the cost of medications she needs to live, what kind of a system is that? I really resent an accountant, in order to meet their ';line'; by refusing a medical doctor's request for a modality or medication for their patient! How many deaths have been caused by some insurance clerk altering a decision made by a physician that has given their lifetime to education, sacrifice and ongoing education to keep abreast of new technology and methods of healing for their patient? I'm done with the bottom line so pockets can be lined, when does the human element come into it? When are people's special someone more important than your profit margin insurance companies?
I will take health care however I can get it. The costs are so outrageous that many, if not most, people cannot afford regular health care if they don't have insurance of some kind. I have never seen why employers should be saddled with this expense. The government should provide health care to its citizens. I have heard the argument that government sponsored health care generally is not as good as privately funded ones. But, there are many people without it that would appreciate any kind they can get.
Speaking of benefits my uterus is dragging the floor any suggestions? I do work.
