How hard is it to change job in the Air Force?

My trustworthy recruiter told me that I would be able to change jobs or cross-train for another. How hard is it to change job in the Air Force?
Yes, every enlisted person is eligible for CAREERS, during their first enlistment.* Your window of eligibility opens at 33 months for a 4 year enlistee. I think its 54 months for a 6 year enlistee. The downside is that you can only cross train into jobs that have shortages so if there is an AFSC you really want but they are not short, you won't be accepted.

*Bad performance reports etc may make you less desirable. Certain disciplinary actions can cause you to become ineligible but I know that won't be a problem for you.

Other ways to change jobs include performing special duties, ie. postal duty or eventually first sergeant duty, etc.

Otherwise, you have to wait until there is an overage in your career field. How hard is it to change job in the Air Force?
Not that easy be wary.
if it is in britain you have 6 months from your start date to change, after that it is very hard and i know a few people that have tried and failed.
It is very difficult although not entirely impossible. If the recruiter is telling you to enlist in one job and you can always try to cross-train later don't enlist. Instead tell him you will wait for the time being until he can recruit you into a slot in that job when it comes open. If he tells you that he can not do that then look for another recruiter as this person is not being entirely honest with you. Keep in mind some jobs don't come open that much or often so you have to also be willing to wait as well as have the test scores that will qualify you for that job. You also may be able to get that job in another service although there is a pretty big difference among all of them. You could also ask him about a guaranteed job contract and if they are offering them. They might not be at this time given the tough economic times and that fact that so many are trying to enlist. A guaranteed job enlistment contract is not the same as a guaranteed field enlistment contract. You could enlist in a job field but not get that particular job that you are seeking so read everything carefully, get it in writing, and as I have said to some earlier, play it shrewd and like a poker game. The thing is it is a serious poker game with your future in the balance and what job you may end up with when you enlist.
Cross-training is usually done as you near the end of your first enlistment which can be 38-40 months if you enlisted for four years, and toward the end if you come in for 6 years. So during this time you are stuck in the job you get after basic. As the post above mentioned if there is something you really want to do, get it in writing otherwise who knows what you'll end up as.
