How do you tell your boss you want to change job posisitons?

I've been here a year and a half, started off a temp, they just fianally made my position permanent after a year, but since they just did this i still have no vacation or sick days, because they didnt set it up that way, anyway, my boss who was not originally my boss is the reason they made it permanent so it could take some the work load off of her, and give it to me,well she pushed to get this permanent, but she's not really nice to me and she mostly a *****, (she does have some good days i think its just her work persona)any way a guy left down in our service department which made a opening and they have offered the job to me, i'll get treated better more pay and have more oportunities to advance, but how do i tell my boss that i want to leave after all she went through to get me permanent? If i leave, alot off crap will be left back on her, until they find someone else and train them all the stuff she has taught me to do, i have alot of responsibilities in this job.How do you tell your boss you want to change job posisitons?
I would talk to the other guy and find out if they will be hiring from within. If so, tell your boss that you heard about the other position and think it might be a good match for you. Get her reaction. She may realize you want to leave because of her (don't say that) and she may help you transfer. The downside is she may make it more difficult for you also, but that would be the case regardless if you told her directly or not as she's bound to hear it through the grapevine. Do what you need to do for yourself. It's not fair for you to be trapped in a position simply because she is overloaded. you need to stop lollygagging around and take some positive steps to get that position. Maybe romancing the boss a little with champagne and flowers or buying her tickets to the Lakers game to get on her good side. These things can go a long way toward getting you that needed promotion. and its the right thing to do for you and your family.
I'd recommend gritting your teeth and sticking with your current position for a year or so before moving on. It's harder in the short run but definitely better in the long run. Meanwhile, the fact that your boss has some good days suggests you may be able to improve your relationship with her and get her to treat you better on a regular basis. After all, she did get you the permanent position, so she must see some value in having you.
That's a little awkward situation, but you have to think of yourself first. Just tell her you were offered the position, and though you really appreciate everything she did for you, it's a great opportunity that you can't pass up.
