My husband just joined the army 88m and wants to change his mos?

He is in basic, but hasn't been processed yet. When I spoke to him last, he was spooked and said that people are telling him that he will be deployed right after we get our perm. duty station and will prob not make it home from deployment. How much of this is true and is it possible for him to change jobs? Thanks for you help!My husband just joined the army 88m and wants to change his mos?
The first thing you both need to learn is to not listen to all the bullsh*t that people talk about. Deploying will depend 100% on where his unit is in their rotation cycle. He doesn't even know where he will be stationed, let alone what unit he will be in. Do not listen to these people and tell your hubby to focus on his training. If you really want to know, look up casualty statistics for Iraq and afghanistan and you will see that they are both very low. He does not need to sit there worrying about ';not coming home';.My husband just joined the army 88m and wants to change his mos?
The thing is, the people telling him this are the other Soldiers in Basic with him. Do you really think they know what they are talking about? No, they don't. In Basic there's this huge information vacuum because no one knows anything and you don't have any access to information sources. So people just spread rumors and pass along bad information. Also, the casualty rate in Iraq has dropped dramatically, a further indication that your husband will be fine.

He can eventually change his MOS, but not right now.
Regardless of your husband's MOS, he faces the chances of deployment. All of us in the Army are or will deploy at one time or another. There is no way around it.

Since he has already reported to BCT, he can not change his MOS. He can only change his MOS if he fails his AIT, which I do NOT recommend; or he does NOT qualify to be an 88M (Truck Driver). However, if he should not pass his AIT, he will be re-classed to another MOS that is listed as ';needs of the Army';, such as 11B, 72G and other support MOS.

Tell him he needs to make the best of it and when his enlistment is up, he can either ETS from the Army or re-enlist for another MOS, that he qualifies for.
It is a bit late to change now. He may or may not deploy it depends when he gets to his unit.

88M isn't the safest job out there but he will be trained and know what to do and it won't be like he is ever alone.

Regardless what job you have if you go to Iraq sooner or later you will have to be in a convoy or they will hit your base so it really doesn't matter.
let me get this straight he's scared that me might get deployed? why did he join again? did he think he'd be working in a cubicle?
