How can I tell what jobs are in demand in my area?

Does anybody know of a site that can tell you what jobs are in demand in your area and how much they pay? My husband is considering a job change and wants to go back to college but was wanting to research some careers. We live in a small town and don't have a lot of options?? He has taken some networking classes but he is unsure of how available that job is here? How can I tell what jobs are in demand in my area?
just look at local want ads - the ones with the most listings will be the ones in demand - same if you check a particular city/area on monster.com or similar websiteHow can I tell what jobs are in demand in my area?
see if there is a career counselling office at the educational institution he is attending.
The Want Ads will tell you the situation now.

School takes a couple of months, and the situation may change.

What are the industries in your area and how are they doing?
There usually is a state employment service office in every county--probably in the town or city where the county government is located. They have information on all jobs open in that area, and probably it would be helpful to talk to the people who manage the office.

Your local Chamber of Commerce also may have some information about the kind of jobs that are available in your area, pay scales, education requirements, etc.
