Are there any exceptions to breaking continuous service through terminal illsness of spouse when changing jobs?

The person worked in a probation office in the midlands moved to the south west to take up the same position but his wife became terminally ill immediately and only had six weeks left to live so took the time to be with her and then obviously to grieve. How does the law look at this pleaseAre there any exceptions to breaking continuous service through terminal illsness of spouse when changing jobs?
Here is a link to ACAS, who will be able to tell you exactly where you stand. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Dl1/Director

I have an AA in Business and going for a BA, any ideas on how to change job types?

I work as a set-up/process technician and I want to get into management. All of my job searches have been answered by people who want me to continue what I have been doing. I do not want thatI have an AA in Business and going for a BA, any ideas on how to change job types?
It is possible that you will not be able to advance a whole lot beyond what position you currently have until you obtain your BA. This has been the same for me that I have an Associates Degree and I am pursing a BS degree in Managment and until I get my Bachelor's I will not be able to really get a job making a substantial salalry and statistics will show that a Masters degree makes a substantial difference in pay as well.

Have you ever quit or changed jobs because of your beliefs (or lack of)?

there are some really angry ppl (at least on our R%26amp;S) that think religion is shoved down there throats everyday in different areas of our lives...how about the work place? if so, have you ever changed or wanted to just quit and leave b/c of a religious aspect of your job?

also, believers--have you been convicted by your religion to change or quit your job?

just curious. Thanks to all! good day! :o)Have you ever quit or changed jobs because of your beliefs (or lack of)?
Not necessarily religious, but once I became more and more honest and started having a very high level of integrity - it became troublesome to 'sell just about anything to anyone'!

It seemed a blatant lie!Have you ever quit or changed jobs because of your beliefs (or lack of)?
Yes. I was fired because I would not sell people expensive things they did not need. I would only sell them what they could actually use. Doesn't work that way for some companies.

The best thing about it is that God provided for me. I was offered a job within 2 weeks that made $20,000 more a year. I've been with that job for 2 years. God takes care of His children.
I'm an atheist, one the best jobs I ever had was working for a jewish day camp teaching arts and crafts every summer while I was in college. Do you know that not once was I preached to or even looked down upon for my views. Other then that, religion has never come up for me in any work place I've been, so no I've never quit a job over it.
A friend of mine got fired because he stopped being a Catholic. Good job it was only a part time job.
My faith says that as soon as a female gets married, their first responsibility is to the husband and household... they may still work if they can keep everything else going... however once you have your first child you can no longer work, unless you can take the child with you. Your responsibility goes to caring for the child(ren). So after having my children I did have to leave the job that i was doing... I now do some baby sitting and teaching on the side... because I can take my children with me doing that.
Nope.

..But I used to sing in this church choir during my leisure time, and I really enjoyed it, because I absolutely LOVE singing, and I have quite a decent voice if I might say so myself. ;)

I was a Christian when I originally started attending practices, but as time passed by I went through a very gradual deconversion. In the beginning, because of it being gradual and somewhat unnoticeable at the time, I managed just fine, albeit with a *slight* bit of cognitive dissonance. After a bit more than a year, however, it started getting more difficult, and I felt as if I didn't fit in very well anymore.

Also, at that point, we changed conductors and got these two COMPLETE Jesus freaks. By all means, they were nice people. But still, they wanted us to sing ONLY Christian songs, nothing else. I felt like such a hypocrite, I just had to quit at that point. Even though I don't think I was actually an atheist at that point, more like a deist or something along the lines of that, but it still didn't work out.

I still miss aspects of that choir, like my friends and SOME of the songs we used to sing. Oh well.. Maybe someday I'll find another one.
Many years ago I quit a retail job due to a schedule that required me to work on Sundays (which made it difficult for me to attend my church). While I am not saying all people should not work on Sundays....I did quit for that reason....which is connected to religion.

I work for myself now, and have no complaints as to my religion in my profession.
Yes, I've changed jobs because I have a belief in considerate treatment on the job site. ie; not having to stand for 8 hours for example without being allowed to sit and rest your legs and back...

The more pain people are in because of their idiot bosses and company policies, the less productive they will be and can hardly wait to clock out. Religion was never an issue for me where I worked because people kept it to themselves.

The better the employees are treated and considered, the more productive they will be.
No but my wife did. She needed time off for an event through her church and they wouldn't give it to her, as someone else had already grabbed those vacation days. So she decided her religion was more important than her job and quit.
Yes, one job had to leave because one of my coworkers kept a drawer full of narcotics and her behavior proved to be under the influence and nonproductive. The other I left because the sales script was dishonest.

Do you really need experience to work at a oil change job at 18 years old?

I heard you dont need experiance and they train you,but then i hear you need to have exprience which makes no sense if they train you, well can anyone tell me what you need in order to work at a oil change place, and how much is it an hour for a 18 year old.

Oh and and how much does WAL-MART pay an hour for stocking shelves and i heard it's a 3rd shift job which makes it more comfortableDo you really need experience to work at a oil change job at 18 years old?
I can not tell you first hand but I would not imagine that an oil change shop would require experience. They probably would start you out at minimum wage. They only way to know for sure would be to fill out an application %26amp; talk to the manager. I would imagine WalMart would be much the same, although they may have an online source that shows job opportunities available, starting pay, %26amp; benefits.

Good Luck!

How to cope with unhappiness in workplace?Quitting and changing jobs unfortunatelyare not options at this time?

wow she wasnt much help was she? lol all she wanted to do was ask u a bucnh of bs questions! anyways I dont know what kind of job you have but make new friends take your head phones to work and listen to some music like I said I dont now your limits @t work cause u didnt say what u do!How to cope with unhappiness in workplace?Quitting and changing jobs unfortunatelyare not options at this time?
I have been a Human Resources Counselor for over 20 yrs but now I'm retired from it. I love helping people with work related problems and relationships. My questions are:

Why are you unhappy?

Have you spoke with HR or Personnel about this?

Do you have a guy you had a tryst with and this is why your unhappy?

Are there other departments in this business you can be transferred to?
  • music player
  • what are the top hard disk brands
  • How do you tell your boss you want to change job posisitons?

I've been here a year and a half, started off a temp, they just fianally made my position permanent after a year, but since they just did this i still have no vacation or sick days, because they didnt set it up that way, anyway, my boss who was not originally my boss is the reason they made it permanent so it could take some the work load off of her, and give it to me,well she pushed to get this permanent, but she's not really nice to me and she mostly a *****, (she does have some good days i think its just her work persona)any way a guy left down in our service department which made a opening and they have offered the job to me, i'll get treated better more pay and have more oportunities to advance, but how do i tell my boss that i want to leave after all she went through to get me permanent? If i leave, alot off crap will be left back on her, until they find someone else and train them all the stuff she has taught me to do, i have alot of responsibilities in this job.How do you tell your boss you want to change job posisitons?
I would talk to the other guy and find out if they will be hiring from within. If so, tell your boss that you heard about the other position and think it might be a good match for you. Get her reaction. She may realize you want to leave because of her (don't say that) and she may help you transfer. The downside is she may make it more difficult for you also, but that would be the case regardless if you told her directly or not as she's bound to hear it through the grapevine. Do what you need to do for yourself. It's not fair for you to be trapped in a position simply because she is overloaded. You have career goals too.How do you tell your boss you want to change job posisitons?
you need to stop lollygagging around and take some positive steps to get that position. Maybe romancing the boss a little with champagne and flowers or buying her tickets to the Lakers game to get on her good side. These things can go a long way toward getting you that needed promotion. and its the right thing to do for you and your family.
I'd recommend gritting your teeth and sticking with your current position for a year or so before moving on. It's harder in the short run but definitely better in the long run. Meanwhile, the fact that your boss has some good days suggests you may be able to improve your relationship with her and get her to treat you better on a regular basis. After all, she did get you the permanent position, so she must see some value in having you.
That's a little awkward situation, but you have to think of yourself first. Just tell her you were offered the position, and though you really appreciate everything she did for you, it's a great opportunity that you can't pass up.

If she has an ounce of class, she'll be happy for you.

Why are americans content to have health care tied to their jobs?

millions of people keep their jobs ONLY because it provides health care. fix the system, so people can change jobs, doing something they might actually enjoy and accel at, and everyone benefits.

how can this be wrong? Why are americans content to have health care tied to their jobs?
Americans are far too greedy and self-centered to ever accept the idea that maybe they should share the burden of health care with those who are unable to look after it themselves. Civilized countries have been doing this for a long time. Why are americans content to have health care tied to their jobs?
It should be tied to working.

I do not think that the slugs who don't WANT to work should have their healthcare paid for by us!
gee, i don't have health care provided by my employer, and I would really appreciate it if it was
Its an unfortunate reality that healthcare is expensive in america. 23 cents of every dollar goes to health care business and 77 cents to the privlages. In places like canada 2 cents goes to health care business and 98 cents to the privlages.

We find loopholes to not give some people the medical attention they need because its too expensive. Also costs are only raising.
Since it pays, mine as well get it. Everyone knows they can get this tied into their job, making it another reason why their job is good. There really are alot of reasons, but since they can have it and its a good thing get a job that has it so your not loosin out.
Thank you for pointing this out. There is obviously a flaw in the system. My heart sunks when I see that old people have to work so that they don't go broke paying for their medications.
Do you have any idea how expensive health insurance is without going through your employer?
it's not. Health care is cheaper on a group plan at work than a private policy. Could get a private policy when leaving your job, but it is too expensive, so we try to get another job with good benefits.
Insurance costs make it impossible for small businesses to offer health insurance. Insurance was never intended to pay for doctor visits, prescription drugs or tests.

It was for major sickness or illnesses.

If your auto insurance payed for oil changes, tires and repairs; you could imagine how much it would cost.
Hmm, maybe because it isn't a problem.

Or perhaps because they prefer the healthcare they get now instead of what they could expect from a government program.

Could be they don't want to shop for health care themselves.

Maybe people who like the government to provide things for them should enjoy one of the nordic societies instead?
A universal healthcare policy should be implemented. It would take the burden of small businesses providing health insurance off and not to mention the free healthcare benefits.
b/c that is how ppl have traditionally rec their healthcare.

Healthcare through their job ..they(the employers) have a larger group(pooled) and can get a lower rate....that makes their (employee's healthcare affordable. Well, somewhat affordable.

If ppl had to get insurance on their own......MOST probably couldn't afford it, their premiums would be thru the roof....which is exactly what happens.

With the rising costs for healthcare many small businesses can't afford to pay for healthcare for their employee's.....many businesses are NOT offering healthcare anymore b/c of that.

    I agree...it's a huge problem!
I'm ';one of those'; excepting I love my job, but wish I could afford insurance if I ever had the opportunity to retire. I don't know how ';the little guys'; can do anything except keep voting for receptive candidates that can make a difference. I wish we would take ';the best of'; from countries and/or insurance plans that are succeeding. My senior mom can hardly make it with the cost of medications she needs to live, what kind of a system is that? I really resent an accountant, in order to meet their ';line'; by refusing a medical doctor's request for a modality or medication for their patient! How many deaths have been caused by some insurance clerk altering a decision made by a physician that has given their lifetime to education, sacrifice and ongoing education to keep abreast of new technology and methods of healing for their patient? I'm done with the bottom line so pockets can be lined, when does the human element come into it? When are people's special someone more important than your profit margin insurance companies?
I will take health care however I can get it. The costs are so outrageous that many, if not most, people cannot afford regular health care if they don't have insurance of some kind. I have never seen why employers should be saddled with this expense. The government should provide health care to its citizens. I have heard the argument that government sponsored health care generally is not as good as privately funded ones. But, there are many people without it that would appreciate any kind they can get.
Speaking of benefits my uterus is dragging the floor any suggestions? I do work.

Increased anxiety after quitting smoking / changing jobs after 16 years / having a newborn?

I know there isn't a quick fix but i'm willing to do whatever to feel okay again.

Any clue how i can beat this?Increased anxiety after quitting smoking / changing jobs after 16 years / having a newborn?
Great tips in the previous comment. Also, try laying off caffeine (if you drink coffee or soda) for awhile-- or at least cutting back from your normal consumption. Caffeine can be a culprit for feeding anxiety attacks.

You have had some crazy life changes, so it sounds like your body is rebelling.

Know that things will settle down soon as you move into a new routine.Increased anxiety after quitting smoking / changing jobs after 16 years / having a newborn?
You have had major changes in your life enough to drive anyone into an anxiety ridden state. I would suggest to do some exercising to release some of the pent up anxiety. Whatever you do don't go back to smoking cigarettes. Perhaps you need to talk to a confidante. Begin an exercise regime, perhaps, running and you will feel great again!!!

Is two weeks' notice still the standard amount of notification time when changing jobs?

I am looking for a new job. I assume that the traditional two weeks' notice is still the standard time to tell one's current employer one is leaving before starting a new job, but I'm not sure. One the one hand, I don't want to skip out on my current job earlier than is considered customary, but I also don't want to give any more advance notice than I have to, as I'd like to leave as soon as possible. My current employers often try to take advantage of my time and my skills, and I have a feeling that they will try to convince me to stay on longer than two weeks because they don't want to be inconvenienced having to go with my position being unfilled for any length of time. And if I'm offered a job, I'd like to know what to tell my new employers as to how soon I could start without putting the new job off for longer than is customary. Thanks in advance. Is two weeks' notice still the standard amount of notification time when changing jobs?
Legally, yeah. You have at least two weeks to give a notice to your employer that you're leaving. Is two weeks' notice still the standard amount of notification time when changing jobs?
Two weeks notice is absolutely okay. Do not let your current employer pressure you into staying any longer than that if you don't want to. You would completely be doing the right thing with 2 weeks notice.
2 weeks is customary, but so is getting canned when you give it.

There are far too many people looking for far to few jobs.

The job market is a dirty place today. Honor is a thing of the past with most employers.

Longevity is not reliable either. When you think your 6 months away from retirement, your actually days away from being fired.
if you want to stay on good terms with your current employer then yes two weeks notice.

    but if you hate them then say ';so long suckas';
The norm is 2 weeks, however, many companies have policies that state they require a longer notification. You may want to check on that to be sure, as you will want the best possible reference later.
two weeks is still the customary amount of time to give notice . that gives them time enough to begin the process of replacing you . but don't let them talk you into staying longer unless you will be well compensated for it.
Yes, two weeks notice is still the norm. However In my line of work, const., the turnover rate is so high that a notice of any kind is unnecessary. I can say as an employer It Will be easier to get me to rehire you if we part ways amicably.
I used to advise on employment law in the UK. Basically, it depends how long you've been there if you haven't got a written contract of employment, and if you have, your required notice period will be contained in it. Some employers will negotiate a shorter, or even longer...period if you ask.
Two weeks is customary in the professional world.

However, I wouldn't jeopardize a good opportunity to give the other employer 2 weeks. Especially if they take advantage of you, you don't owe them anything. Do what is suitable for you and if you are unable to give sufficient notice let them know why. Advise them that '; you regret to inform them that your notice is effective as of ____as you are enthusiastic about starting a new position as soon as possible.

I just wrote my letter of resign...and located good tools on google that explain every situation for leaving.

I learned in a business class that you should give only the amount of notice that your pay period length is....

paid every 2 weeks: give 2 weeks

paid every week: give 1 week

    ***

Oh and there is no legal recourse unless your job had you sign something prior to beginning employment. That is not typical...just as easily as they can tell you that you're fired, you can tell them you're leaving.....and leave
well, the first guy is wrong. It's not illegal to give shorter than two weeks notice of quitting. That only goes for when your company lays you off. If you don't want to burn any bridges when you leave, then two weeks is a good thing to do. The two weeks thing is so you can hand off any current work to other associates, also so your boss can find someone to fill your position when you leave, and lastly so they can throw you a proper going-away party (the best part). If you want to nuke the bridge, give them less than one week's notice. Good Luck!
From the standpoint of moving to another position, the 2 weeks is considered minimum courtesy or substantial notice; HOWEVER, depending upon the circumstances, e.g. your present value to the company, the years worked there, and the difficulty in replacing you, it is often to your advantage to give more than the minimum... your prospective, new employers SHOULD understand and even perhaps admire your sense of ';fair play,'; realizing that should you one day choose to move to ';greener pastures,'; that you wouldn't ';leave them in the lurch,'; so to speak. They may give you all the more favorable, poignant recommendations down the road when you may need them.

From the the employer's side, if you're being ';let go,'; then you SHOULD get severance pay for two weeks minimum... actually, from my view, a person being the victim of a ';downsize'; or merger should get a full month (minimum) of severance... people who are bringing themselves to the table at the behest of a company should also be able to secure some kind of contracted ';tenure'; where they cannot be so readily victimized.

Depending upon how you feel you were treated with the company you may want to give them as much transition time as is practicable for you %26amp; your interests...

CAREER ADVICE: Is this a good time to change careers?

I know the economy is bad, and I do have family concerns (small children) but I'm at a crossroads. I'm in a stable field (Education) happy where I am, but there are several positions available at an institute of higher learning I'd love to apply for. I've longed to top out at a college. But...starting over scares me, and the fact we need stability at home. But these opportunities may not be available for years again.

Has anyone else changed jobs in the middle of a struggling economy AND if so, how did you deal with family matters?CAREER ADVICE: Is this a good time to change careers?
I would suggesst doing both, stay where you are, and do school on a part time bases if possible. Even do school on-line. I wish you luck, and times are tough.CAREER ADVICE: Is this a good time to change careers?
I would agree with Rachel - if you can, keep your current teaching job, and see to teach part time at the higher level so you can feel out the university.

Change of income for mortgage qualification?

Wanting to change jobs but am trying to buy a house next year. A dream job I am looking at is in the same field but pays less. What will the lender think? How will this affect my mortgage? I do have a husband who will be on the loan as well, if this helps.Change of income for mortgage qualification?
If it is in the same field of work with no space in between and you have not already pre-qualified it should not be a problem. Just put hubby as borrower and you as co-borrower. Banks like to see a steady work history preferably in the same field. Just explain if they ask that this was the place you really wanted to be even though it pays less. Of course if it is a lot less, you may qualify for less of a mortgage too though. good luck!Change of income for mortgage qualification?
Most lenders look at work history. They do not like gaps of unemployment. If you are going from one job straight into another one, it should not be a problem. They also like the ';bottom dollar'; - as in, can you pay off the loan. The fact that you took another job at less pay should not factor in.
It might, especially if you are out of work for awhile. Most lenders now days have programs for everyone in every situation. I am self employed and had alot of work to do to get a mortgage but it was do-able and I didn't take any hit doing it. The mortgage companys really like to see 6 months of employment and its best if it is the same field that you have been working in. They don't usually consider it a change of employment if your feild of work stays the same even if you work for a different company. Also I work for a title and escrow company and I see ton's of people a day in all kinds of situations. (I think now days almost anyone can buy a house)
As long as you have at least two years in your field and no large gaps in employment, changing jobs will not affect your application at all. The lender will simply qualify you using the income that is current at the time of application. As long as your reduced income and your husband's income are enough to qualify for your dream house, go ahead and take your dream job.
Most of the time if it is the same field it will not count against you, but if you are changing fields 2 years.

I'm a hairdresser. How long should I work till or should I try to change jobs. ?

I work part time now and don't feel to badly. But When should I slow down or stop.

I;ll be standing , all the time. I even do the sweeping and shampoo's

I am not sure how the smell of products ie. hairspray, colors, perms are going to effect me.

    Well thats some details.

I am also 42 years old and this will be my 3rd ... Still raising the 7 and 9 year old.(with my hubby)

let me know what you think.or what you know

thx. HairCI'm a hairdresser. How long should I work till or should I try to change jobs. ?
My hair dresser did hair up until the baby came out. She was 39.

She however didn't have swelling or any physical problems. I quit doing hair at 35 weeks due to swelling.

As long as you aren't sticking your face into a big bottle of developer you should be fine. I know so many woman who haven't had any problems and worked in the salon up until they gave birth.

I think it's really a personal choice, doing hair does put physical strain on your body.I'm a hairdresser. How long should I work till or should I try to change jobs. ?
If this is what you truly want to do why not stay at doing it. If its because your expecting, you will have to talk your job over with the owner/manager. Maybe they will allow you to sit at the front desk at the end of your pregnancy to keep you off your feet. If they wont work with you to do this maybe you should get another job if you need the income.
My sis was pregnant when going to cosmetology school full time. She went all the way up until a week before delivery and was fine. Just don't overdo yourself, if you are tired or sick go home or take a break. maybe they can let you be the receptionist or give you different duties for a while (putting up supplies, washing the towels, inventory) stuff like that.
I'm the child of a hair dresser and my best friend is one as well and she's in the delivery room as we speak.

My mom worked basically up until her delivery day with each of her three kids. My best friend's due date was Monday, and the last day she worked was last Friday - so she worked up to about 38.5 weeks.

One thing she did was to get a saddle stool and would sit when she was cutting hair. Beyond that, she just toughed it out.

How do I stop getting bored with each job I work as, and not keep wanting to change jobs every 6 months?

After working somewhere for about 1 yr max, I always have this urge to quit, take a short break and look for new ones. Mostly, I don't even have another job before I quit my present one. Any solutions? How do I stop getting bored with each job I work as, and not keep wanting to change jobs every 6 months?
I had the same problem and believe it or not - I signed up to work for a few temp services.

I got paid as much as being an employee, they offer health (major medical) and I worked as often as I chose!

I learned SOOOOO much and many new skills (on top of a fabulous resume anyway)...

I ended up being offered job after job to stay with companies I had temped at.

Then, all of the sudden, out of the blue, I fell in love with a company and have been happy ever since.

NO MORE SETTLING!!!How do I stop getting bored with each job I work as, and not keep wanting to change jobs every 6 months?
I have now decided to pursue Construction Management - 4 year degree - thats how well my new ';fit'; is. And I never saw it coming...good luck

I feel for you. We are the same bird. I get bored very easily too. I now go through a temp agency. It's awesome because I can take the job or not. I can stay as long as I want. I can even go do the work when I want. It's great.
make your own bussiness. it works for me.

    no boss.

    no hours.

    no dress code.

and you reserve the right to deny bussiness to anyone
Would you let me know which company you're quitting before you leave? And would you recommend me for your position? I can't believe you! Do you know how hard it is to find a job? And you get bored of it???
find a job of your passion.

the job you will look forward to every single morning.

then you wont get bored so easily.
I know this sounds silly - but are you doing something that you enjoy? Are you sure you are in the right career? It sounds like you are either not challenged by it or arent interested in the career path. Have you ever taken a career placement or career interest/aptitude assesment test? I know there are some online that may be of help. Maybe going back to school for a specific interest. If you do a yahoo search for free career aptitude tests it comes up with a lot. I hope that helps a little, sorry I dont have a magic answer but it sounds like you just haven't found the right job for you yet...
Find a job that's constantly changing something about it. Such as location, hours, people. If things are fresh you won't get bored.
Lucky you to have so many options. I cant find a job.

In regards to your question, think about what you really enjoy doing. Maybe none of these jobs have been right for you.

I am currently temping (because i cant find a job) and you can do something different every day and get to choose when you work. Maybe that would work for you. The problem is that it's too easy to say you cant work that day and end up not working full time.
Stop just looking for ';jobs'; and start pursuing a career--something you truly have a passion for. It could make all the difference for you.

  • How can I ask my employer to change job positions without making it seem like...?

There are two cash registers where I work. I want to work on the other one, cause the one i usually work on requires me to go out into the lobby and clean tables and sweep. I do this everyday I work. I want to do something different- I just want to take the food orders.

How can I ask my boss to let me switch registers without making it seem like I'm whining about the work? How can I ask my employer to change job positions without making it seem like...?
Just tell him you prefer the other and if ever that job comes open you would like to switch. How can I ask my employer to change job positions without making it seem like...?
tell them you are interested in career advancement/ growth in the company and ask if what you want is an option!!!
It all depends on how long you have been there. It depends on your experience vs their experience.

It sounds like you are the newer person maybe?

If you feel like you are completely equal on running the cash register as the other person you could ask if you two could share this duty of taking car of the dining area.

But realistically, the newer people no matter how long it takes to move into a new position, gets more work, less desirable work.

Ask the person next to you if they ever worked your register, ask how long before they moved over to the other register, you may find they did it for longer than you have been doing it, so it would not be fair to get them to do it again. Keep in mind, what I have said here, if you do make it sound whiny no matter the words you use, you could be replaced, they would make up something to lessen your hours or replace you. Take care, the bottom doesnt feel good, but it is a job, the longer your there, the better it looks on your resume next time you look for work.

My boyfriend is upset that i don't want to change jobs. He works harder + makes more. But I am a fulltime?

student and he knew that I was not going to get into any serious job.He thinks that just b/c he has more of a carrer oriented job that I should as well.He is 26 I am 21 if that makes a difference. We are both students and he thinks that just because he works f/t and school p/t so should I.But he knew in the beginning that I want to go to school f/t and wrk p/t. Since we have moved out of state things have gotten worse b/c now he knows I have no one to run to if we have an argument. I want to come back home but I am unsure if I should just find a job that keeps ne busy. That is the argument w/ him,he wants me to find a job that keeps me busy even if it does pay less than my current.i like my job,it is flexible and my manager lets me do homewrk.we have had arguments about this before because he brings up how he is the breadwinner and i should apreicate him more for affording me to go to school and live a better life.i want to go back to my home state, but am i making a mistake? My boyfriend is upset that i don't want to change jobs. He works harder + makes more. But I am a fulltime?
No you are not making a mistake. If you told your bf this from beginning, he's not being to considerate. I know in Washington, the cost of living is high. If it is hard on him to do what he agreed to, then make it easy for him. You want this relationship to last without a major fall down. I say go ahead and leave Washington. Why stress you out and him, making the both of you miserable. Be happy! Who cares who has the most money. He suppose to attempt to take care of you. I mean you moved out of the state for him, I guess.

School should be your main goal at this point, that is enough stress and crap to go through. I know! Plus you have a p/t job. Go ahead and leave, If he wants to act like a man. Then he should stick to his verbal contract and respect the situation as is.My boyfriend is upset that i don't want to change jobs. He works harder + makes more. But I am a fulltime?
I think that would be the right thing to do. He doesn't support you and worse he is trying to control you by changing you. Leave him now. It will get worse, not better. Are you happy? It doesn't sound like it. Don't you want more? Tell him to take a hike and find an uneducated woman that will put up with him. He's 26. You are 21. He's 5 years older. He should be done with school by now unless he's working on a masters. You need to do what you think is best but I really think it would not be a mistake to leave him. You are so young and you should do what you feel is right for you. If you don't then you will be unhappy and become resentful and maybe even bitter.
Next he'll be telling you what to do with your money and time and then he'll want you to quit the job and stop going to school then he'll graduate and you'll see his rear disappearing out the door with some other woman. Go home and hope that your family will help you finish school and get a job and pay them back as soon as you can.
I have had a similer issue I have a degree in art and I only work part time to give me the time to make my work. My ex thought I should just get a ';real'; job that brings in the bacon but even if I have got a full time job in a shop or whatever I'd have still earned a lot less than him as he was an engineer. In the end I broke up with him. Like your boyfriend he had issues with being appreciated. I think a lot of guys feel paranoid that women are just freeloading off them when in reality if you are together and love each other then in should be a real partnership. Now my art career is starting to take off and soon I will be able to give up my other job and I'll be both happy and have plenty of money coming in. If my ex had been more supportive he could have shared in my good fortune.

Speak to your partner and see if you can work things out but if not then don't let him hold you back.
I think that you need to let him know that you are doing the school thing for you and you told him that in the beginning. You are young and it is completely fine to be in school and working part time. Especially with the job that you have, which sounds really amazing for a student; being able to to your homework and have flexible hours. I would tell him how you feel and how the things he is saying are making you feel. He is a lot older than you and the fact that he is doing the opposite is fine, he needs to accept the situation or both of you need to discuss openly what needs to change.
From your description, he's being extremely shortsighted to the point of stupidity. Is this a means of control on his part? That is, would he criticize ANYTHING you were doing? Whatever the motivation, he needs to learn these things are partnerships and what benefits you in the long run, benefits your partner in the long run. If he cannot learn the lesson, do NOT let that keep you from doing what is in your best interests.
It's funny... my Girlfriend and I have similar kinds of arguements! Actually I decided to take some time apart from her as a result.

It's been great because it's given me time to think about our situation and I don't know but what I've been thinking probabl applies to you as well.

Both of you need to make some sort of compromise for eachother. The fact that you are working as well as studying sounds to me like you've been compromising... but is he?

Don't jump the gun and just dump him... I tried for 4 years with my girlfriend before I decided to end it. You do need to talk... try not to get into a petty arguement.

At the end of the day you are investing in your future whilst studying... You should hopefully come out with a better job. It's worth trying to explain this to him (I don't know if you have already tried).

If you both are not happy then you need to both ask yourselves why you're togther.

Perhaps going back home might be better for the both of you... at least for a while.

First try sitting down and talking . It sounds to be like he just needs to feel a bit more appreciated in general... he can't put his finger on what's really bothering him so he's finding any excuse to have a go at you and the easiest one is about your job. People rarely say what they mean you know.

I honestly know how hard it is and I hope things work out for you I really do... I'm in the same boat as you myself just a little further down the line.
Hun you need to leave. If he is treating you this way and you are not married then can you imagine what will happen when you truley are his? These are the warning signs of someone who wants to be in control and have their way. If you can not communicate with him on how important u working this job is and he can not reasonably explain his concerns then its time to move on....I understand finances are stressfull but I have 5 kids and have no gone back to school my husband knows how important this is to me instead of bugging me and buggin me about going back to work after losing my job he sees that I have cut back on a lot things and helped ease our budget by using coupons only driving when necessary, painting my own toe nails, dying my own hair, cutting the kids hair, only renting movies instead of going out, making cookies instead of buying store bought...he appreciates the little things that are adding up..now if you have done some this and tried to communicate to him how important it is to you to finish school and he still doesnt listen ( if ur not married) then go home hun its time to pack it up and find your way thru life...take a deep breath tell yourself you are worth it and you can do it and just get up off the couch and do it.
i think he's just being a jerk. maybe he's seeing someone else and wants you to be out of the house more often. if he knew from the begining what you wanted what other reason does he have of bringing this up? He's just being bigheaded because he knows he earns more than you and you depend on him. he really doesnt deserve you and you should think pf other alternatives.
Do you really want someone that treats you that way? He's a selfish, immature, controlling male.

Go back home and leave his stupid azz sitting there.

How could unemployment benefits be affected if I change jobs?

I have been with the same employer for 5 years. My income (from tips) has recently been cut in half. I have some job security where I am now, but I feel it may be worth venturing off to another company where my income would go back to where it was. I have talked to employees from this potential new employer and they have confirmed the income I am seeking is consistent. My concern is over the job security of the potential new employer; furthermore, I am concerned over the ramifications this could have on my unemployment benefits if I get laid off or fired from the potential new employer.

So my question is: If I leave my current employer that I have worked for 5 years and get hired and then laid off from a new employer in less than a year, is there some loophole in the unemployment benefit system that could screw me? Or, could I just call Obama directly and get my own personal stimulus package? How could unemployment benefits be affected if I change jobs?
if you/ve been collecting and working,,i.e ,not declaring income,,,tips are income,,,,you'll get in deep doo doo if the unemployment folks get wise to this,,,,,unemployment bennies are based on 'base period earnings';,which cover a year and a half prior to the week you establish your claim, and the weekly benefit

is based on 80% of your weekly GROSS income earnings,a lot of people are on a federal extension,,,,finding another gig can be touchy,,,,if it doesn't work out,you have to do everything possible to ';dialogue' with the boss toward keeping the job, doing the job as agreed, this is the wage promised ( carry an operating voice recorder during meetings, etc),this is the job, etc, get whatever can be written up in the way of an agreement.if the new guy pays at least 80% of your ';customary wage'; in your usual occupation, and you have the skills to do the job,you have to take it,and the rules for collecting bennies would apply

if you quit, get laid off,or are cannedHow could unemployment benefits be affected if I change jobs?
You would not lose any benefits. You wouldn't qualify for any stimulus money packages under the obama stimulus simply because you don't support him. Me on the other hand love that stimulus money I'm getting of 985 bucks a month all tax free.
The problem with changing jobs in these times is that if thay

layoff at your new job you would most lickly be first to go.

What I would do is find a part time job to suplement my income

for the time being, if at all posable. Rember job stands for

    JUST OVER BORAKE

    Good luck

RSI sufferers, did you have to change jobs? what do you do now?

i have RSI which means i can't do office work anymore and also suspect that doing one type of thing with my hands (even if it's not typing) for many hours a day won't be possible. i am ok to do most things - even use my computer at home - but not for long periods of time. i have no idea what to do so would like to hear from people who have similar experience what they are doing now and how difficult it was to re-train or get a different job. i'm more interested in hearing about your experience - that's why i'm not giving info about myself.RSI sufferers, did you have to change jobs? what do you do now?
You have a lot of 'assisting technology' available. For example typing use a voice activated speech program? In fact you can now get programs that reads your e-mails. Therefore locate a local assistive technology center and pop along and see what is available, chances are you can continue to work. Best of Luck

  • My wife is pregnant, should I wait to change jobs?

We just found out my wife is pregnant, we believe she's ~5 weeks, appointment is in a couple weeks. Prior to this I was going to update my resume and start a new job search. I have 4yrs+ with my current employer with lots of vacation time built up and the precedent set to be able to take time off when the baby is born. The baby would not be on my insurance (wife's is better) nor do I have any benefits from my company regarding childcare.

I don't hate my job but I do believe it's time to move on. Besides more detailed things that aren't worth posting about, my hours and commute really tire me out.

My concerns with a new job would be a) unknown stability and b) the ability to take time off when the baby is born and how that looks to a new employer.

Does anyone who has been faced with this decision have any thoughts? Thank you for your input. My wife is pregnant, should I wait to change jobs?
You certainly have reason to question yourself on this matter. My advice to you is... when you find a job that you are wanting to work out, let them know up front that you and your wife are expecting and let them know what your plans are regarding time off. This way, there are no surprises for them down the road and you will already know if there is going to be any conflicts.

By the way, Congrats on the new baby!My wife is pregnant, should I wait to change jobs?
Well, I think if you really want time off when the baby comes then possibly you shouldn't leave. However, if you think you can find a job with less of a commute that will get you home to your wife and baby sooner then maybe the trade off in vacation time would be worth it.

Also, if you could find a higher paying job it might also be worth it.

    Hard decision I know.

    Congratulations though...that is so exciting!
If you are offered a new job you could negotiate some time off when the baby is born, although it may have to be unpaid. I don't think employers look down on this any more.

When I took a new job I had already planned a two week vacation. I told them that when they made the offered. I did say I would take the time unpaid.

Do your homework about a new company. How are they doing? Is there any chance of layoffs?

It may take noine months to actually find a new job, so it may not be a problem. Good luck with your decision. If you're not happy where you are, go for a change. Just remember new jobs are stressful at first and so are new babies!
Do NOT quit yet, you will need all those vaca days, use them up for the birth and right after the birth and get a little savings piled up too THEN start a new job. You can start the job hunting in a few months and just say that you are not available til a few months after the birth.
congratulations on becoming a daddy :)

my husband is in the same position you are in. he is going to apply for new work asap while the pregnancy is undemanding and he's going to mention that he is requesting october off work on paternity leave.
The REALITY here? -- there's no choice. If you weren't made An Offer -- there's nothing to balance or weigh. Tomorrow is the same, as yesterday, for you (so far).

You want to look, but you are not looking and are NOT in demand and being asked and balancing a Decision based on present-comfort.. because you haven't even been in front of the First HR department, etc. with this subject matter in mind. You're hand-wringing, and not acting. (Don't give yourself an excuse, by the way.) What else are you doing at night -- that you can't send resumes/letters and pitches, explanations, etc. and TRY to raise salary, your situation and career? Do it.

Your answer to this question?... You don't HAVE A NEW JOB... you are ';thinking about looking';... and there's a Big Difference. Seek a new job all you want, there's NO harm there... sending resumes, etc. (why not).. but, until you hear the words ';when can you start?'; -- you have NO DILEMMNA. And when you're speaking with someone pointedly, you don't HAVE to say a Word about any of this... but to feel out maybe a week, of flex-time, etc. (I had 1 day off for the 1st child, and 2 days for the 2nd one -- since they both were born on Holiday weekends!) You never know... are if you/she has family.. it will be easier than you realize. You just have to work WITHOUT MUCH SLEEP, which is what I've been doing for 7 years now, essentially. You will adjust, not matter where you are 8 months from now.

    GL to you.

I am looking to change jobs - is anyone else shocked by how little work there is available these days!??

I used to be able to walk from one job into another seamlessly - however, as I have been where I am for a wee while I am shocked to see that Job Centre Plus/Local Paper and the Local Council all have so little opportunities available - anyone else find this or is this just specific to my area - Scotland??I am looking to change jobs - is anyone else shocked by how little work there is available these days!??
i work in construction and i'm shocked by the job prospects. i know the main reason is because of the developers and the job agencies they are both greedy rotten bastards by keeping the job competition high they can keep the wages down. skilled people such as myself getting no better than minimum wage. well see how long it takes for them to come crawling back to the locals when the immigrants go home after they've milked the place dry. its not just scotland or britain but ireland is getting it as well. these are seriously desperate times. but there are far too many agencies its about time they were pulled into line. or shut down! its not the immigrants fault but they should be getting the standard going rate the same as the local tradesmen. foreign brickies and joiners getting minimum wage no wonder the locals are undercutting each other. an agency rep once told me they had to hire from outside as there wasnt much native skilled labour, what! in ireland? half my mates and family are all still in ireland trying to get a wage from their trades. its a friggin joke but i'm not laughingI am looking to change jobs - is anyone else shocked by how little work there is available these days!??
Yes very much so, you know I can recall the days when you could leave work on Friday and start a new one on Monday not anymore sadly.
Jobs are still ten a penny.
yes, the times are changing but that could be because we are in a recession and business are closing down all over, you better stick to the one you have and pray not to be laid off

How do I change jobs in the AF DEP??

I'm currently have a guaranteed job in Securtiy Forces however after talking to many airmen in the RAP I dont think this is the job for me. My recruiter says this is impossible but I kinda know how recruiters work and I do feel bad because I know its not an easy thing to do. I really don't want to be a pain in the *** and I love the air force! but this is my career and on top of serving my country I want to get the most out of my air force career as possible. My question is this, How do I play this game? who do I have to talk to? how do I get the ';real'; answers and not the recruiter answers? My recruiter says they are going to kick me out just for asking, I know they only want people who really want to be there, but I do! Could this happen? Im a highly qualified applicant do I have any options? HELP!How do I change jobs in the AF DEP??
You can definitely change your job while you are still in DEP. If he says you can't then tell him you want out of DEP and you are not going to join. You are not obligated to do anything until you leave for basic. How do I change jobs in the AF DEP??
EWQ? Good job! Me too. You can change your job in the DEP as much as you want, it may just suck for them a bit but hey, it's their job. It's what you call a ';Job Shuffle';. They'll go back to that list of choices and put whatever you wanted on top of the list, so you'll have a good chance of getting it.

This is possible, don't let them tell you otherwise.

Career Rut... How can I change jobs.. feeling stuck and hopeless.?

I am stuck in what I would describe as a career rut. I have two degrees, a degree in psychology (honours) and a teaching degree. Like many Education students I decided not to get into the teaching field. As a result of this I had a very difficult time getting my first job. I ended up taking the first job that aws offered to me, and I stayed with it for 2 long years.

The job I ended up taking was a job working with the disabled. I help them find work and keep employment, as well as keeping them involved in the community. It might sound like an interesting job, but really, it's not. I work with many difficult clients, which will sometimes require me to sit in my car with them for 2+ hours.

The organization does not treat it's employees well. I feel like I am invisible most days I go in to the office. My organization has put people (clients, public, and staff) in harms way because they are too thick to see the potential for problems. *When I say they put people at risk they really do. During the summer, because the organization did not listen to staffing concerns, a client almost killed a 10 month old baby.

Last year I took on a part time job, as a means to get more experience. I also instruct classes on computer software (contract, no benefits). I was hoping this would open up some doors for me in other companies, but this has not occured yet.

I just need a way to get out of the organization I am working at. I have been working there for 2 years with no promotion and little increasements of responsibility. The organization does not promote males, that has been apparent since I started there. I will stay where I am as long as I saty with this organization.

It really bothers me. I am not some dumb guy either. In Uniersity I finished in the top 10% of most of my classes. I recieved the highest grade in some of my classes. I went to University so I wouldn't be stuck in this type of job.

Career Rut... How can I change jobs.. feeling stuck and hopeless.?
Start exploring your options. There's a school of thought that even if you like your job, you should occasionally interview elsewhere, just to remind yourself that you have alternatives %26amp; that you have market value. Keep your resume up to date, attend networking events. Figure out how you can leverage your academic credentials plus what you have learned in this job. (Remember, when you interview, no matter how you feel now you must be able to describe your current job in a very positive way, including all the great stuff you have learned.) Right now you sound frustrated and burnt out -- your biggest challenge is turning that around so that you are attractive to other employers. One good way to do that is to learn something new %26amp; valuable -- make yourself an expert on something. Good luck!

Why do I want to change jobs questions on interview?

I quit a permanent job and started this temp job this week. I realized is not what I thought the job would be like originally. I was aware there would be data entry but I didn't realized that 70% of the job is administrative (do filing, data entry, get materials for people, put back materials into storage room) and 30% is technical. At that time I wanted to leave my company really badly and this was a government job that's why I took it and plus my grandfather was dying so my mood wasn't good. Now I realized it would be a waste of my ability to stay in the job. My question is if I get interviews how do I tell them why I want to quit when I just started the job this week? Why do I want to change jobs questions on interview?
You can say that you are leaving your job because there are no opportunities for growth/advancement.

Here are some sample answers you could use:

I found myself bored with the work and looking for more challenges.

There isn't room for growth with my current employer and I'm ready to move on to a new challenge.

I am interested in a job with more responsibility, and I am very ready for a new challenge.

I am seeking a position with a stable company with room for growth and opportunity for advancement.

This position seemed like an excellent match for my skills and experience and I am not able to fully utilize them in my present job.

I am interested in a new challenge and an opportunity to use my technical skills and experience in a different capacity than I have in the past.

Good luck in your search for a new job!Why do I want to change jobs questions on interview?
If you manage to get an interview for your ';next'; job...just make sure you secure it before quitting the one you just got.

How do you quit the one you just got? You go to your boss and tell him or her that you don't like this job all that much, and that you're actively looking for another. That way they will start interviewing more people for your job, and fill it right away when you leave. Believe me, they will appreciate your honesty, instead of just quitting and leaving them without someone to fill your position.

Yeah, it might be awkward to tell them, so just wait until you're 100% positive you have the next job. Then tell those people you have to give proper notice before you can start the new job.

If they don't understand that: then I'm not so sure you want to be working for them.

My point is : it's never a good idea to burn your bridges behind you.

  • Greetings! How do I make sure of no pre-existing condition restriction on health insurance when changing jobs?

I'm starting a new job soon, from private sector to fed gov't and presently have CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield.Greetings! How do I make sure of no pre-existing condition restriction on health insurance when changing jobs?
You will have a pre-existing if you have a 63 day lapse of coverage. So buy Cobra coverage for one month from the job you are leaving and then you'll only have a 60 day lapse and you'll be set. Or just to cover youself you can buy all 3 months until the new policy sets in.Greetings! How do I make sure of no pre-existing condition restriction on health insurance when changing jobs?
Call the HR department at the new job and ask about pre-existing conditions. They'll be able to give you the most accurate information.
Yes, check with the personnel function at your new govt job. Unless I'm mistaken, federal employees usually have a choice of health plans to enroll in.
Pre x is chosen only by the employer group! You will have to ask the employer group of if you know who the insurance is through call them and see if they have a pre x on the group. Before you call them get the group #er
If it's at all possible, try not to let your current policy lapse until the day before the new one starts. Meaning, if you don't get benefits at the new job for three months or more, it's worth it to COBRA your current coverage. A good many plans will waive the pre-existing clause if you can prove you had insurance immediately prior to the new plan.

Change jobs in the AF DEP?

I'm currently have a guaranteed job in Securtiy Forces however after talking to many airmen in this job, I dont think this is the job for me. My recruiter says this is impossible but I kinda know how recruiters work and I do feel bad because I know its not an easy thing to do. I really don't want to be a pain in the *** and I love the air force! but this is my career and on top of serving my country I want to get the most out of my air force career as possible. who do I have to talk to? how do I get the ';real'; answers and not the recruiter answers? I know they only want people who really want to be there, but I do! Could this happen? Im a highly qualified applicant do I have any options? HELPChange jobs in the AF DEP?
You can definitely get your AFSC changed before you go to basic and sometimes you can even get it changed while in basic. Unless you really want to use the SF job to become a cop on the outside of just really like working long and I mean long hours 16+. I would suggest changing it asap. I was in for 8 years and got ';voluntold'; that I was going to be a SF Augmenteeand we worked for 38 straight days and the shortest shift I ever worked was 12 1/2 hours. And nothing against anyone that is in SF but that is usually the job they put people in that flunk out of their AFSC in Tech School. So if your recruiter is telling you no then go find another recruiter. Plus I would suggest getting an AFSC that you can use on the outside (Air traffic control, medical, computers).Change jobs in the AF DEP?
You have to go thru your recruiter, only MEPS can change your job.

But with the situation the AF is in now,

They could very well just tell you, take SF or take a walk.

Because, who is to say, if they went and changed your job, changed your ship date, for the new job,

You wouldn't just decide, you wanted to change that job in the future.

And no one is gonna play that game.
My friend is an Airman in Security Forces Tech School @ Lackland AFB right now...he loves it at the moment...from the Security Forces ';Defensor Fortis'; beret to the ABU's (Airman Battle Uniform) and shooting M16's...it's not for everyone, that is true

It was your decision to join the Air Force therefore it should be YOUR decision as to what your MOS is...your Air Force conferencer should've offered you 3 specialties...at least that's how my MEPS visit worked for the Navy

Ignore your Recruiter's complaints if he gives any...(he/she shouldn't) this is YOUR service and decision...be blunt and be serious and they should be able to get it down

    Good luck, future Airman

How can I collect on a judgement for an evicted tenant? She changes jobs because of another wage garnishment.?

She doesn't stay in a job long because a previous wage garnishment catches up with her. I want to file a judgement against her Illinois tax refunds or better yet the federal tax refunds, how do I do it?How can I collect on a judgement for an evicted tenant? seems to me you cant garnish tax returns. thats reserved for state and federal garnishments. IE child support unpaid fines back taxes etc.

How can I get lending if I just changed jobs?

I work on commission. I worked for the same company for 4 years. I recently left that company and am now working for a company in the same industry. I am now making more money. But I have been turned down for a loan that I should easily qualify for. I was told even though I have been in the same industy for 4 years. I need to be at my new job for a minimun of 18 months. Is their a way around this? I would really like to be able to get into a home. How can I get lending if I just changed jobs?
Try another lender. I was always under the impression that as long as you had steady employment in the same industry over 2 years you were good to go. I think the lender you talked to is just being extra conservative. When my ex husband and I moved where we are now, he had changed jobs and only worked at the place he was for 6 mos and we had no problem getting a loan because our credit was good and he was in the same industry.

Changing jobs and approaching social security tax maximum. Will they still deduct SS tax?

I have a tricky situation at hand. For 2007, the social security deductions from income are 6.2% upto the first 97500 of the income. So, the maximum SS tax one pays per year is $6045.

I was with employer A till August. After that I moved to employer B. My SS contributions at employer A were $5800. Now, my question is, how would the employer B come to know that I am nearing the maximum Social Security contribution and they should stop SS deductions after that? How would B know that I have already paid $5800 while at emplyer A?Changing jobs and approaching social security tax maximum. Will they still deduct SS tax?
Employer B won't know, and has to keep taking out social security until you reach the limit with them. You will have excess social security withheld but will get that as a credit on your 1040 return when you file it.Changing jobs and approaching social security tax maximum. Will they still deduct SS tax?
Employers do not coordinate your SS withholding. Each employer will withhold 6.2% of your wages up to $97,500.

If two employers have each withheld 6.2% on your wages up to $97,500, and your total SS withholding is more than $6,045, then you have excess SS taxes paid. The excess is paid back to you when you file your tax return.

When you enter the SS withholding from your W-2's into you tax software, the overpayment will be taken care of and treated as a payment of income taxes.
Employer B will still deduct up to the maximum, they won't know about your previous SS taxes paid, and will effectively double up on your SS taxes. When you file your 1040, the excess SS withheld will be a credit to your federal income tax paid.
Yes, the new employer will deduct ss unless you reach the limit at their company.

If you end up overpaying for the year because you had multiple jobs, you claim the overpayment back on your tax return. Last year it was line 67 on form 1040.
All your employers are required to withhold SS and Medicare. If you exceed the maximum because of having 2 or more employers, you will claim a refundable credit on your 1040.

You will report the excess on line 67 of 1040. The following link is to a PDF copy of form 1040 for 2006.

    http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf

The only time you would get a refund from your employer is if you only had one employer and he over withheld.

Everything comes full circle, new ideas are never new but only new to the people who don't see what has gone before.Technology will not work without the power to make it work, do you really think that power will be here in 100 years?By then we will be using horses to plough fields, sowing seeds and reverting to ages long since past.I am not a religious nut, this is not decreed by anyone but i am sure fuel sources will be so low that we have to return to old ways of survival and technology will have no meaning or place in society above basic survival.I'm sure we will be a lot happier too, working for selves and not for others profits.

How do you know when its time to change jobs?

Co-workers are quitting and their jobs are gettiing dumped on several of us without salary increases or without us even being asked. We get maybe 1 hour of training on how to do new responsibilties and then co-workers quit. I have been at this job for 8.5 years located on East side but i live on West side.Given the gas prices what would u do?ps. Also single parent of 1How do you know when its time to change jobs?
if you are being given job duties outside of your job description, you need to request an increase in pay. it is not right or legal for an employer to insist that you increase your regular workload without incentive. i would recomment doing additional tasks if this is temporary. if it is a permanent thing, you need to take action or move on.

i went through this at one job. they ended up giving me 4 terminated employee's responsibilities and then got upset that i was not doing a sufficient job on all of them. keep in mind that my hours did not expand. you can't do a good job when there's not enough time. How do you know when its time to change jobs?
Don't quit until you can find another job that better suits you . Also 8.5yrs is a long time to just give up , if you walk away won't you be giving up vacation and sick time . But, on the other hand if your not happy then maybe another job is the answer . I don't know what the right answer should be but ,GOOD LUCK!!
are you ready for the type of job and salary in the market? if so , why wait? otherwise, this time is not as good as had been because of the shaking economy. it is better for you to open your eyes for better without making any noise with your present employer. you are not single have got responsibility for the kids too. good luck.
OK the time is when you dread getting up in the morning for a low wage job...and you feeling like I can do better than this for your beautiful child!I RESPECT YOU me was brought up in single parent family and me know how hard it is with all the responsobility! DON'T WORRY IT WILL ALL WORK OUT!

    I Hope I Helped
Well, I would go to my supervisor and tell him/her how I felt about the extra work load. If the extra work isn't the issue as much as the money, I would let them know that you think you deserve more money now that you have extra responsibilities. Not that they don't know that already. But it will not hurt to ask.
Hone your interview skills, polish your resume and start shopping for a new job. Take a day off, schedule 2 or 3 interviews...worst case scenario, you got a day off and possibly a new job!
If at all possible you should have a job you love. If not then you

should look elsewhere for a new job.But get new job before you quit old job ! Good Luck to you !
Gas prices prices aside, I understand being a single parent. If they are flexible with your needs and it meets the bills, hold onto it. It's a hard job market right now.
Start looking for another job. When you wake up and dread going to work...when you find yourself saying i hate my job...it's time to go to the next job.
And this relates to marriage and divorce, how?

How often does the average person change jobs?

I read the average person or maybe I should say most people end up changing jobs about three to five times in their life. I think I read that in an article or a book somewhere. I am not sure how often in between jobs they state. I guess most of you have been at your current jobs a lifetime. If not,how long have you been at your current job and did you have many jobs beforehand? It is just a general question I have always been curious about. We will assume that these apply to the jobs or careers you will get after you are in school and have the education and work or volunteer experience. Or I guess it could apply to high school or college. How often does the average person change jobs?

Will I have to change jobs after knee surgery?

I am currently serving in the Army military police corps and I had knee surgery which was relatively unsuccessful and was wondering the how things may play out for me. I am not sure if I will have to change my mos or get a permanent profile or both or even possibly be discharged. any help would be appreciated. I had reconstructive surgery six months ago. Will I have to change jobs after knee surgery?
You failed to state your current rank, how many years of service and what you mean as unsuccessful!

If you are E-5 or under you will probably be honorable discharged with a 20-50% disability which will be upgraded higher as you get older.

If you are E-6 or above or might be given a choice to change to a non-combat mos or a honorable discharge with the same 20-50% disability.

It will really depend upon your final outcome after rehabilitation.

GOOD LUCK!Will I have to change jobs after knee surgery?
Best way to find out is ask the physical therapist who is rehabing you - they will have a pretty good idea of where you will end up.
Recently, a 70 year old lady who works as a nurse's assistant had bilateral knee replacement surgery. She couldn't afford to have them done one at the time, because she couldn't afford to take off work that long. She was back to work in two months. Needless to say her job requires that she be on her feet most of the entire shift, but she's doing okay.

She didn't, however, have any complications from the surgery. Why was your surgery unsuccessful? Did you get an infection or anything? Is it possible that the surgery needs to be redone? Most people aren't limited in what they can do once it heals properly. Talk to your doctor.

  • Is it normal to keep on switching jobs?

I've worked in 10 different companies in the past 8 years, all in the same line though.

Is it normal to be changing jobs so frequently?Once i know the work,I get bored and I look for another.

How should i stop changing? Is it normal to keep on switching jobs?
Sorry but when I am looking at someone's resume or application I do look at how long they have stayed at one job. I don't want to put the time and money into hiring someone that is not going to stay.Is it normal to keep on switching jobs?
Find something you like to do.

And something that's fun for you.

Then you will enjoy yourself and hopefully not change!
    Changing jobs is okay if their is an improvement in position and remuneration. Companies do not like ';rolling stones.';
Changing careeers is normal. in your case, perhaps your personality is more of ';easily-gets-bored';. i would suggest that before you enter another job, try looking ahead, ponder the experiences you would get from it. also, this might be a sign that what you're doin right now is not what you really wanted. try to discover that.. ask yourself what you really want to do.
Well, its not the case about it being normal or not. But well, yes it IS normal. I mean, when the job becomes of no interest to you, you would want to change your job. Even though you've worked in 10 different companies in the past 8 years, they are all in the same line, so it doesn't make a difference if you've changed your job or not. But there are few people who would keep changing jobs. Because the longer you stay in that line, the more they will keep you. So, if you keep changing jobs, your application form will surely state so, and it'll put a bad impression on you. Therefore, you have to stop your habit. I know that you often get bored once you know the work, but its not only you! Your colleagues are all the same, bored of the same old work every single day. But, you've to bear with it. I mean, you just need the money, don't you? You need to earn money and so you work. Thus, if you get bored, that's that. If you really can't take it, maybe you would like to approach your superior to give you a different task. But it's gonna be best to do what you've been doing all along.
    hey...for me it's still normal..

its just that you cant still figure out what you really want ...

dont worry.....you just have to really decide what exactly do you want to do.....and learn to love your job coz through that you'll enjoy everything and you will not be bored anymore%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;.
I don't know whether it is normal or not. I just know that regular job-hop is still not very popular with most employers out there. But it doesn't stop me from changing jobs!

How ethical is it to change job after 1 month of joining?

Hi, i have joined an organisation and i have got an offer from the organisation that i was following up with before joining present organisation. I don檛 want to loose my salary from this new joined organisation, and the offered organisation is saying to join as soon as possible. So is it good practise to leave within 1 month of joining ?How ethical is it to change job after 1 month of joining?
It's not that good if you care about having a reference. If you feel that you are better suited at the other organization, then go for it. However, I wouldn't make the jump just because you think the grass might be greener on the other side, at least right away. Generally a year is a good marker to start thinking about other prospects if you are looking to move on yet carry valid experience and a good reference. Best of luck to you.How ethical is it to change job after 1 month of joining?
Write them a nice letter advising that you were waiting on the other org. they took tooo long to respond, but now that have you want to go wtih them. Go ASAP
In the US, the job you're at now has the option to let you go any time. And you have the option to leave any time. Ethics are not really involved.

If you like the second job better, go to it. Very politely tell the first job that you appreciated their hiring you but you have found a better opportunity. Offer to work there two extra weeks if they need you.

You do not ever have to mention that you worked at the first job again (except on your tax form, of course!) If you put it on your resume, you will look like a job-hopper, which is not good.

Just be sure that you really prefer the second job. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
just don't list that job on your resume in the future
Why doing job? try for business. it will help u earn lot of money.

Does changing jobs affect my chances when it comes to getting accepted to a credit card?

For example in my case I would be leaving my year long job at taco bell to see if I can hook anything better. How long would I have to wait before I know I will surely get accepted?Does changing jobs affect my chances when it comes to getting accepted to a credit card?
It depends, if your income is going to be higher or lower with this change. If you receive a higher wage then you will probably have a better chance of being approved. On the other hand if you are getting paid less this might hurt your chances.Does changing jobs affect my chances when it comes to getting accepted to a credit card?
If you are working at Taco Bell, the last thing you should be worried about is getting a credit card!!!

Yes, length of time at your job affects your credit, but entry-level part time jobs are (by their nature) entry level and you SHOULD be moving on after you have a little experience.
You will never know that you will ';surely'; be accepted. Even if you wait for 50 years, there is still a possibility that you might be rejected for some other reason.
    hi,

It won't affect your credit card application. You can get your credit card very fast here:

How do I change from mortgage field to finance or health care.?

The mortgage business isn檛 what it was; and I want to change job markets (I wanted to go into foreclosures; I've tried for 10 months). If the NYSE hits 13000, interest rates will be through the roof. Imagine what that will do to real estate market. Then base your decision on whats best for you and the kids... if its better hours... more stable homelife and better money then go for it...but remember too, if the new job will stress you out too much, then that takes its toll on the kids too... you want to be a happy mommy.... not a stressed out one.. :)Change jobs? is one job more responsible than the other job i think one is more right for me but the other is?

Hi, i have completed MTech ( MS) and for the past 2 years i am working as a software Enggineer ( in linux + server domain ) . Now i want to change my profile from Software designer to Sales and Marketing of software products. How do i achieve that. Do i need to do MBA or EMBA . Once i complete this course then how to change my field.Change job from Software engg to Sales and marketing?
Sales and Marketing of software products requires a lot of engineering. To get the contract, it''s been my experience that you have to basically built a working solution to one of the prospective customer's problems *fast* (sweetening the deal). EMBA's are very fast, usually expensive MBA programs that MAY be what you need - I had a 2 year MBA program (that took me 4 years to complete- I was a coach on a baseball ans soccer team - AND working full time).

The extra time-crunch on the EMBA might give you the ';groove'; towards this mkg job your looking at.

With the rising price of gas, how far would you travel if you had to change jobs?

I got sent a resume out yesterday to a huge banquet facility for an event coordinator position. I already work in the field, but have become frustrated with my employer and am considering changing jobs. This new place is more corporate and has a good reputation, but it about an hour and 15 minutes away from my home, assuming traffic is good. My current job is about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. I currently make about $31,000. I get a year end sales based bonus, but it's never consistent, and this year I think I'll be lucky to get anything.

I haven't even had an interview yet, much less been offered the job, but I was wondering:

Given the cost of gas + wear and tear on the car + additional hours away from the family because of the commute, how much would you have to get paid in order for the negatives to be worth changing jobs? I was thinking at least $50,000, including commisions and bonuses. What would you want to make those sacrifices? With the rising price of gas, how far would you travel if you had to change jobs?
I increased my salary from 22K to 45K last year by committing to a 1.5 hour commute. I was able to make the commute for just over a year. It seemed I never felt like I was giving my job 100% because I was either dreading my drive to or from work. I never felt like putting in additonal hours because of what might lie ahead of me on the road. It was a much more prestiges positon and the money was great ,but I never seemed to get ahead. I spent more money on normal things because I didn't have the time or energy to shop around. I had meals out more because I didn't have time to shop and cook. I even started hiring someone to clean my house. I felt like I lived either on the road or at the gas pump. If traffic was extra heavy, there were accidents or bad weather it was even worse. You might want to factor those things in as well as gasoline cost, wear %26amp; tear on vehicle, hours away from family, not to mention the affect it will have on you physically and emotionally. A longer commute also increases your liklihood of being involved in a serious accident even if you are a very careful driver.

Just some things to think about.

Money is not everything....I learned the hard way. With the rising price of gas, how far would you travel if you had to change jobs?
    not far, id take transit
    you can't :D
I would not drive more than half an hour away from home
Unless I were carpooling I would travel no more than 15 miles. Gas prices are just too much.!
Well, to me, time is worth more than money. But seriously, I think you should become Amish. They don't have to worry about gas, or wear and tear on a car, or electric bills, etc. You know, a horse and buggy is actually a much better investment than a car. It's cheaper and lasts longer.
Family; PRICELESS, you can make all the money in the world but, I don't believe I would want to, I would think of my family first.
I would never travel that far for any job considering the cost of gas, the wear and tear on your auto, the time spent in traffic and emotional health.

If you could work at home two of those days instead of commuting, maybe it would be worthwhile.

How can you put a price on your time?
I wouldn't do it for less that 65,000 a year, a company car and company gas card.

    Good luck, Jackie b
Two hours a day of your life for the commute more than you have now it would be like getting home at 7 instead of 5. It will interfere with dinner or sleeping or seeing your family. Assume your time is now worth $15 per hour you would need to get paid $30 a day extra just for your time, depending on your car and miles not just time I would say another $20 per day for mileage. Then I would think you would want something for the cost of not being home so about $100 per day more to work farther from home. $50K would be about enough, but maybe you can work from home part of the time or work 4 ten hour days or even 3 12 hour days to save commute time.

Consider moving nearer work if you are single and don't own a house.
Add up the total time it takes you commute and work and divide by your current salary, then multiply that by the time it will take you to commute and do your new job. That is the lowest salary you would want to ask for. Then, set your trip meter to zero and see how many additional miles you would be traveling. Divide by your MPG and multiply by the price per gallon to get your addtional gas costs per trip. Use this to calculate your annual costs. Then divide that number in half to get approximate wear and tear on your vehicle. Add these two numbers to your new salary to come up with an appropriate salary level.

Add last year's bonus to your salary when discussing your current compensation.
I don't have family to take into consideration but, for me, the biggest consideration is the time spent in the car, in traffic and in a situation where my stress levels are going to skyrocket. The volume of that daily stress would make the job change prohibitive.

The cost of gas right now is certainly a very big factor and a volatile one to boot. If I were going to make the change, I'd make sure I had the most fuel efficient car that I could afford.

Lastly (and this is you-centric), while you may be frustrated with your current employer, they are a known entity. Make sure you aren't just viewing this potential new employer with rose-colored glasses. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Perhaps there is a way you can address your current concerns with your employer?

For myself, in my current job, my trade off is less money than I could make elsewhere and a location that is less than desirable but I get great coworkers, a company that prides itself on being family oriented, and a very interesting and fun job.
No ! The job you are doing is nice because it paid nice salary and and incentive. If you cross your limit.

How to get over the anxiety of changing jobs?

I've been at my current place of employment now for 6.5 years. For this entire time, the company had always paid for our health insurance in full. Now, starting August 1st, I will have to pay 20% of the insurance costs, which will cost me $210 a month. I can't afford this pay reduction, so I'm forced to start looking for a new job. I have on job in mind, which I know I'll make more money and that has me excited, but I'm still anxious about the whole changing job idea. Any suggestions? Thanks. How to get over the anxiety of changing jobs?
Especially if your heart feels heading the right direction - YES, move on for new exciting experience : )

This, of course, comes with excitment and anxiety - this surge of energy. It is understandable the surge of energy is at a higher level as you've been more than half a decade at this familiar place. Changing means new adaptation and expecting unknown - which no matter how you reduce the level of uncertainty by findnig out as much as possible, there is still stuff that we are unable to forsee.

May be instead of wanting to ';get over';, why not ';channel'; the energy! The anxiety can be channel to positive direction - feeling excitedly alive, looking forward towards new learning and acquiring new skills, knowing more new people, and you've spelled out - better monetary prospect $$

Channel the energy. Once you've weighed your pros and cons and assure of your direction. Focus on the immediate matters, be happily excited, reduce the worry tension!

ALL THE BEST in your new endeavor!!! : DHow to get over the anxiety of changing jobs?
Have confidence in your self and your abilty. Rise to the occasion. Ask lots of questions and make sure that you receive all the proper training. You should do fine! Be excited about taking a step up.
Just think about for a long time....

You are going to be in a new place...--Not so fun

You are going to make more money and your health will be much safer there...-----VERY GOOD
Take the psychological approach.... start making other changes in your life. It's the idea of change that's the most scary. So.. start making other changes first. Go to the hairdresser, get a new hairstyle. Go buy a couple of pieces of new clothes (nothing too expensive...just something new that looks good on you and makes you feel good to wear). Maybe something new in your apartment (again, it's not the price tag...just something that will brighten things up a bit and make you feel good to come home to). Now with these few changes, the idea of starting a new job won't be so scary, you might even look forward to it. Think of August as your ';starting a new chapter'; month.

Good luck and keep us posted!
